Skate Like a Girl Pro: Jen O’Brien

Pro vert skater Jen O’Brien has pushed the envelope for women’s skateboarding over the past ten years. Jen started skating in her hometown of Daytona Beach, Florida at a time when few girls were hitting the pavement. When Jen unexpectedly performed with Bob Burnquist during the Men’s Vert Doubles, she became the first woman ever to compete in the X Games and was one of the main instigators to have women’s skateboarding become an official paid contest. At the 2003 X Games, Jen walked away with the silver in Women’s Vert. Jen recently formed the Alliance (STEF- make link to our article) with other fellow female skaters in the hopes of continuing the ongoing trend of independence and success for female skaters everywhere. Honored by the PETA as one of the Sexiest Vegetarian Women Nominees, Jen is a strict vegetarian and subscribes to an organic lifestyle. She was named Sports Woman of the Year by the Women’s Sports Foundation. Jen shares a home in Southern California with professional skateboarder Bob Burnquist and their daughter Lotus.
